Singer 319w zig zag is not zig zagging
Hi everyone, excuse me if this has been discussed, I tried to find out if it had but was not able to.
But I have recently gotten into sewing, mostly camping gear. But I got a singer 319 w. For some reason the zig zag stitches don't work. I have adjusted the stitch width and stuff. But what it seems like is that when I select the stitch I want, the part that is supposed to ride along the disc as it sounds does not follow the up and down of the discs. It only hits the tops of the discs which causes it to move just slightly instead of within the full range that it should. Is there a spring somewhere that drives that? Or something I am just missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome, Tank.
Something needs to be adjusted. I know on my Japanese "Miracle" I had to adjust a screw to get it to follow the cams correctly. I really haven't sewn much with my 319 so don't know how the adjustment is made on them. Perhaps Singer 319 in need of TLC might have something about adjusting this machine.

I never adjust anything on a machine until I’m pretty sure it is adequately cleaned and oiled. If it has set a long time that oil can be pretty dry. It only takes a tiny bit of dried up oil to foul up the machines. There can be a smidge of rust somewhere. Yes, make sure it does a straight stitch before you worry about ZZ stitches.

My Singer 319, when I got it, came with the wrong needle and I started sewing with it straight and then zig zag. And the 15x1 needle bent, the thread tangled and the SINGER 319 stopped making zig zag and decorative stitches. But if I move the needle column lever, it goes to the 3 positions (left, center and right). And when I activate the CAMS keyboard, the needle column moves after placing the point at 3 to 5 mm. But the column with the motor running does not move from one side to the other to make the decorative stitches. The SINGER 319K only sews straight and perfectly like this, but does not work with decorative stitches. I live in Brazil and I don't know where I could take it apart to fix it.

Can you manually swing the needle (by just pushing it back and forth)?
