There is a nice quilt shop in Ballwin, Mo called In Stitches. Small store but is packed with great fabrics and wonderful help. Arcola Il has a great quilt shop but it is about 2.5 hours from St Louis. It is an Amish owned quilt shop on main street.

1/. In Stitches, Ballwin. Close to Chesterfield. Lots of great novelty and brights. Pam is great! Fun projects.


3/ Jackman' Fabrics located at 1234 N Lindbergh, HUGE! Family owned for over 100 YEARS! Largest shop in St Louis!!


2/ The Quilted Fox, Frontenac, Mo. Ten -15 minutes south of Jackmans. Very unique shop. Lots of batiks and ethnic fabrics. The go-to store in St Louis for Asians fabrics, African, etc. It is located in a business building. Across the road from a Neiman Marcus and Saks. "High rent" area, "old money" residential area. You will need to look up the address. Worth the trip! Unique. On the 2nd floor. Behind the large hotel off of I-64 and Linbergh Blvd.


4/ Helen's' Hen House in Florissant MO. A short drive north of Jackmans located off of i-270 Located in a Civil War era estate. You can see the house from i-270. Lots of traditional and reproduction fabrics. Yarn too. Great house!! Civil War era house!!


I numbered these in the order that i would drive them. You can start with the furthest, 4, and drive it in reverse. Tho, once you leave the Quilted Fox, you go North on Lindbergh and Jackmans will be on the right. (Divided highway....you will have to back track if traveling in the reverse order of the shops. A pain! But doable.

Going to South County....

Heyde Sewing on S. lindbergh. South of Tesson Ferry, on S. lindbergh. Great selection across the board. Something for everyone. Machines, etc.

Fenton Sew & vac, Fenton, MO. Large selection of sewing machines, general fabics. Machine embroidery.

Your Quilt Shop in Arnold, MO off of i-55 on the service road. Thimbleberries, novelties, traditional.


Suzy Q, Eureka, MO. Located in old Eureka downtown. Brights, batiks.

I hope this helps! No need to spend all of your time traveling out of town.

Thank You so much Sandy, these stores will keep me busy and my wallet.
Plus Paducah for another day will keep me happy that I didn't get to Houston while in America, I tried tried though .

Jackman's Fabrics has some wonderful fabric, although it's not a true quilt shop. Also, there is Helen's Hen House in Florissant, a suburb in St. Louis. In IL, there is Rosemarry's in Highland IL, wonderful shop. Sweet Annie's in Troy is going out of biz but she has some great fabric left at about a third off. Those two are my favorite IL shops and not that far from St Louis.

Also in St. Louis, there is the Quilted Fox and Heyde Sewing Machine Co has some nice fabric.

Another IL shop close to St. Louis is Patchwork Plus.

Interesting comment. Jackmans carries ALL of the major quilting fabric Brands and has a TON of displays to show off the patterns and projects. They offer many classes too. No, "not a true quilt shop"???

I have shopped Jackmans since my high school days sewing garments in home ec in the 1970's. They were the go-to shop for high quality fashion fabric back in the day . I entered the Make It With Wool contest back then.

Check out their selection of yummy Ultra Suede!

St. Charles is not very far from St. Louis. Peoria is much further, closer to the middle of Illinois.

Thank You everyone for the store recommendations I looked a few up on line but it's the personal recommendations I like , plenty of space in my suitcase for purchases . Looking forward to visiting Paducah especially the museum.
