    Default Using glue sticks

Are the cheap glue sticks suitable to use on seams ? I want to hold the seams together and sea over them . Have any of you fantastic ladies used these sticks to hold a seam and then sew please. .

I have used them... so, far, no problems. I used them last to baste my grandson's quilt. I would say try it... Faye

I always buy my glue sticks at the dollar store- often can find a 4-pack for $1; can't beat that'! they work just fine.

    Make sure they're washable.

Just do a quick test to make sure they wash out. Stick together a couple scraps, sew your seam and then throw it in the laundry.

I use glue sticks for basting down the binding before machine sewing. They are not near as messy as liquid glue and hold just as well after drying with iron. I buy the cheaper brand wherever I can find them ....CrazyArt, I think is the brand. That brand washes out just as easily as Elmers in a warm water wash with detergent. I have never used for seams, but am sure they will work fine.

I was given a tube of Lapel washable glue from a tailor at men's store. It's the best temp glue stick I have used. Fabric sticks together immediately and holds. No heat needed. It's available online.

Yes, I have - you should have no problem as long as the glue is washable. Also, make sure to wash the glue out of the quilt after it is quilted and bound

If you have doubts about the 'wash-out-ability', use the glue on some scraps and make a place mat. Then wash it in the washing machine with a load of clothes. I suggest washing with a load of clothes so that you kind of simulate the experience of washing an entire quilt.

I have used cheap glue sticks when making garments, and they worked fine and washed out completely. I'm glad, because I stocked up during the back to school sales when they were 10 cents each! I was able to sew over the glue with no problems, even in a couple places where I gobbed it on rather thick.
