Get a flea collar and cut it up in one inch pieces, keep a piece in the vacuum bag until the infestation is gone. I would change the piece every week or two to start with. If he has been in the car remember to vacuum that also. Ditto for beds and upholstered furniture, especially around the legs, eggs tend to hide there. Good luck.

Do not use any commercial flea preparations (drops, collars, shampoo, etc.) without consulting a vet. Definitely vacuum both the carpeting AND any wood/laminate floors (they get between the cracks). Wash (or throw out) any soft toys. Wash linens in hot water with bleach. If fabric can't be washed (bed spreads, etc.) take to the dry cleaners in a plastic bag and warn them of the fleas. Car must be vacuumed as people can host fleas as well.

Good luck getting rid of them. They can be a misery.

shake regular table salt on the carpet even if it is covered with wax. they ingest the salt and the expansion when they ingest water causes them to swell and die. the salt will not harm the carpet or floor or even the furniture or bedding and can be vaccummed away and new salt applied fairly easily.

Blessed be
mickey.

Like mickey said. Salt will do the trick for getting rid of them in the house. It not only kills the fleas, but dries up the eggs. Sprinkle it on everything & let it set for a day or two. Don't forget to do it's cage & carrier too. Also wash it's bedding & hammocks in salt water plus the toys. Then vacuum. Repeat this in a few weeks. For your poor ferret, they do have flea & tick shampoo for ferrets. You should be able to get it at any pet store. Ferrets are so much fun. We had two for 8 years & loved them dearly. They loved to travel & went everywhere with us. I sure miss those little guys & oh the stories I could tell about them. Never had a flea problem, but then again, I would use the special shampoo at least every other month just for safety. They got a bath every other week with ferret shampoo as it is not drying to their skin. Dawn may be to drying for them.

I agree with asking the vet about Comfortis. My dog gets a nasty reaction when she gets fleas and Comfortis is the only thing that works for her. I pay 16-20 dollars for each pill but it is well worth it. Only available through the vet. Good luck.

Definitely check with the vet first. Here is a column from the Drs. Foster and Smith website that I found: http://www.peteducation.com/article....1+2074&aid=541

Thanks to all for your replies!
Vet appointment had to be rescheduled until tomorrow due to flooding. He seems to be doing better since he's been here this week, but even with all they've tried (I think she said one was called Revolution?) they aren't completely gone yet. Somebody said his new name should be Patches. But he does seem less agitated than he was earlier in the week.

This is a good web site for everything ferret...
http://www.ferretcentral.org/

this is their page on fleas
http://www.ferretcentral.org/

my daughter had a ferret when she was young..(many, many moons ago!!)..we enjoyed him so much...I was so against it at first, I thought they were rats! The first time she put him in my arms and he yawned and stretched and cuddled..well, that was it! He was such a sweet little guy, and always made us laugh! He would wake up 10 minutes before the bus was due every day and stand and just look at the door waiting for her..when that door opened he would dance and bounce and just be filled with joy at seeing her! How can you not fall in love?

Default flea fix

I had to treat my house for fleas once. I took the washing powder called 20 Mule Team Borax and sprinkled it all over my carpet and furniture. I let it set over night and vacuumed the next morning. Fleas all gone. Also, I would check with my vet about washing an animal with Dawn since it will remove all of the natural oils from their fur.

Any recommendations?

Take your ferret and leave the house and set off a bug bomb.
