Oh I want to try your idea Pam!
Some great ideas here! And you sure got that right Neesie - a child would know exactly what to do with them.

Tie one or two on a string ... makes a great cat toy!

Last year I took the old bobbins from my mother's 1944 Singer and used them as ornaments on a small Christmas tree in my sewing room. I tied them on with thin ribbon.

I'd save them for future sewing machine finds. I have 12 machines now... many with different bobbins. I'm sure I will find more.

I do embroidery also so I buy the Neb pre-filled bobbins. As I get down to the end of the bobbin I change them out during the sew out so it doesn't happen in the middle of the design. As I hand sew my labels to the back side of the quilts and they are usually white, I'll use the leftover thread to sew them on.

I've also found they are great to fill in that empty space inside the large spools of thread when you have it on a side thread spool. It keeps it from wobbling as it turns on the machine.

I wind the bobbins I can't use with colorful thread and put them on a dowel stick put the sticks in a glass vase and
keep them sitting on a shelf, very pretty and lots of comments.

I took a set of purchased bobbins in a plastic case and wound colored thread my DDIL could use in her small sewing kit. She loved the idea and didn't have to purchase spools of thread that might get separated from her kit. Sew piecefully ;-)
