Yikes! I had to read the dumbing down post and I can see why you were discouraged. There's usually a tactful way to express most any opinion. Not sure if Part One was that.
Loved your topic and your reasoning. Keep up the good work!

I think your post was wonderful and inspiring. But i must say that i agree with the central idea of the blog you're reacting to and think that the two views aren't necessarily conflicting. For example, I am a great admirer of quilts better than mine ( and there's a lot of them!) but I also think that quilting is being dumbed down. Parts of the Nancy's Notions catalog are both hilarious and sad. There's a pride in workmanship, making your own fabric and design decisions (however simple) that I don't think you can get by fusing pre-fused pre-cuts to a wallhanging. Even DH, who is not a quilter but has paid for an awful lot of fabric, says, "where's the sport in that?"
Of course, I get claustrophobic just thinking of making a quilt from a jelly roll, so that probably tells you something.

Charlotte

That was SO encouraging to a brand-new newbie quilter who can't decide what step to take next. I knew that about knitting and crochet; just never translated it over into quilting!
