The next large quilt I make, I plan on making a "storage" bag for it, out of the same fabrics as the quilt, maybe more like a pillowcase than a "bag.

I like to buy the large bags at Joanns and use those for gift bags for the quilts.

I like to use up most of my scraps from a project in a pillow-case style bag to hold the quilt. I tell the recipient to wash this cover about as often as they do the quilt itself. If the quilt should need repairs down the road, I can use the fabrics from the bag, which will be appropriately aged to match the quilt. Nobody has taken me up on this offer yet (and I've been doing this for about 20 years) so either my quilts are holding up well, or it's not all that great an idea to non-quilters. LOL

Isn't the BOM on this board doing a pillowcase that has a drawstring on it to make it a bag? I hope it was on here, maybe someone else will answer, I know this is something I might do.

Yes...actually i bought a white over sized pillow case .... then added some of the fabric from the quilt around the top and put handles on it....mine was so they could take the quilt to the beach with them and carry / store it in the bag.

I pretty much always make either a 'gift bag' or pillow cases for every quilt I give- if pillow cases the quilt goes into one of them with the other case included in with the quilt. I quit messing around with wrapping paper years ago. I pretty much always wrap gifts in fabric- made into something, totes, bags, boxes, pillow cases, what ever.

I usually do make a bag for the quilt using the leftover fabrics. Everyone seems to love it.

I made a friend a quilt using Elvis fabrics and made a matching tote. She can use the tote for shopping, a purse, etc. It was a difficult year for her as her 20 year old granddaughter died. I thought she needed some thing larger than a prayer shawl. She was thrilled and her husband couldn't believe it.

I make the Fat Quarter Bag for all the quilts I give away, even the donation quilts. I love this bag. I don't always use fat quarters, sometimes just one piece of fabric. It's easy to make and will hold a king size quilt. The pattern is free online.
