I'd probably use a variegated purple thread and a machine blanket stitch and sew around the edges of the parts. Add a little glimmer with an iridescent thread and thread paint the wings. All depends on what you plan for the whole project. Have fun, and I look forward to seeing your embellished block soon.

Ditto to the beads and metallic thread. Take it a step at a time and it will talk to you. Looking forward to the finished project.

Good suggestions- Thanks. do you think I can do FMQ on the wings before I sandwich the top? - especially since it is a wall haging and will not be washed. FMQ afterward would give me a design on the back but might be easier to FMQ before sandwiching. Opinions?

I agree with Lynnie - seed beads and metallic threads would really liven it up.

I think it would look great if you embroidered your butterfly in black.

I see using machine embroidery stitches to highlight the sections of the butterfly with embroidered black antennae with either a black seed bead or something similar at the end of the antenna. It's a beautiful quilt - I love it.

I'd outline the wings with pearl seed beads. Like the suggestion to use metallic thread to quilt it, outline the butterfly so that it doesn't look gaudy. Just enough color to make the butterfly gorgeous.

I definitely would use metallic thread and machine stitch around each portion of the wings. Then perhaps some beads but you would be able to tell if you need then or not once you have done the machine stitching, You don't want to overdo as it is really attractive to begin with.

Here is the finished wall hanging. I am really pleased with it! I handsewed the beads on the butterfly, echoed quilted around the btterfly, and did meandering on the yellow. The butterfly is in the sky with the sun shining in a flower garden.

I'd do it this way. That is what I did on my butterfly quilt. and it makes it really stand out.
