Not to be too picky, but the blue square "LOOKS" like it's just laid on the yellow. Maybe a blanket stitch or narrow satin stitch or even a simple running stitch in brown like the tiny border.

How about tiny tiny gems... Like swaraoski crystals small but very sparkly.
