For giggles, continued, I saw it on...

ETA: Later still machines had this red tray... it's plastic, I think, and the machine has the prism style decals with a Striated plate.. maybe it's just telling me that it's a fairly late model machine?

My 1952 FW 221-1 case has no tray. And one is not indicated in the graphics in the manual. The button foot controller slides into a holder in the inside of the lid and the cords dangle down onto the machine. I thought it might just be missing at first, but the original manual was there and I believe it.

Can someone remind me? What's the significance of the red accessory tray? It's a post 1950 machine,... but I'm drawing a blank otherwise...

My 222K has that red tray and it's definitely original to the machine. Tammi is probably correct.

The black ones, and probably the red ones, are secured using 2 screws to the left side of the case. If the screws are just loose enough, you can slide the box out of the case. Otherwise, they do seem like they're non-removable.

Ebay had the prettiest little Standard Sewhandy featherweight and the giggle was my thinking it would go at a price I could afford. But if folks will buy 221's all day long at $400, not unrrasonable that it sold for that. hey it posted my pic!

Jim - the Blue Sewhandy is the rarest of the three - so it's no shock if it sold for quite a bit more than the green ones go for. The Black is less common than the green, but not as rare as the blue.
