Ouch, I feel your pain, as I have sewn both a finger and my thumb, at different times thankfully, but it hurt. Hope you're feeling better.

I did that with the needle several years back. It went in right beside the bone just missing it but hit a nerve and now my finger has a numb feeling inside my finger where the needle went in. Feels creepy but I live with it.

I also have been there. Only thing was I didn't do it to myself. When I was very young my sister did it to me. After all don't you do what your big sister tells you to do. She said, "I just wanted to see what would happen". Hope it's better soon. BrendaK

Definitely not a club to join for fun. I've done the needle with 3 different machines (FW, Designer1, and Innova LA). In all 3 cases, I did miss the bone. I have also done the rotary cutter - requiring stitches in my thumb.

I was 8 the first time I did that, with a treadle machine no less. My mom was trying to teach me how to sew, she gave up and said I was just going to have to buy my clothes. lol

Oh, shudder. I'm so sorry you and the other posters have been injured. I am an accident-prone, sort of clumsy person who is not good with small-motor activity and I am sure both those accidents are waiting for me. My husband worries whenever I use the rotary cutter...but my own biggest worry is that I will use the cursed foot pedal and put my foot on it too soon while I still have fingers under the needle. I much prefer the start-stop button for safety reasons.

You are all so brave!

Wish you a quick recovery!
