I have made a Grandmother's Flower Garden. I did have the centers all the same fabric. The next rounds (3) I had each row blend with the next row and then added a fabric "Confetti" which is light cream with specks of all different colors. Then a pathway of green with ladybugs. I finished with hexies of sky fabric then a picket fence and a gate welcoming you to my Flower Garden, The picket fence is in the grass. The only machine stitching was when I appliqued the fence and when sewing a border of sky fabric to stabilize the seams of the hexies that had to be cut off to make a straight edge. I would send a picture of the quilt but don't know how to post a picture.

My favorite quilt is a depression era i" hex that starts in the center with yellow and each round is a different color and fabric. It is a testament to a woman who sewed all her life and used everything she had to make this quilt. My treasure!!!!

Here's the one I'm working on. Would like to attach a border, but don't know how. Would love to hand quilt it, but don't know what batting to use. So am stuck for now.

I don't know what to say for a border, I like it the way it is, but for hand quilting, I like warm & natural cotton batting. Warm and easy to quilt through. I really like yours!

For quilters who are at a quarry as to how to finish the edges of Grandmother's Flower Garden. There is a youtube video I think is very interesting and unique.

More good ideas, thanks everyone. I don't know yet how mine will end up...but I will definitely keep you guys informed. It will be scrappy... and it is a hand project that will take a while.

Youtube has an Eleanor Burns video of a quick and easy hexie quilt. You may want to watch that
