Another family heirloom I would like to ID - help?
#13
Thanks for all the responses - to me, these old (and not so old) family quilts are like puzzles. First off, I am a novice at the quilting realm, so I don't have much background knowledge on patterns or fabrics and all. Second, unfortunately I am at that stage in life where the folks who made these quilts are mostly deceased or they are forgetting who made what when.
So thanks for the feedback - and the valuable information you all are providing!

Adam, welcome to the board! I'm enjoying the photos of your family quilts and the discussions that accompany them.
Your situation is a great example of something you will learn about as you document your family quilts and make more of them yourself. That is, LABEL YOUR QUILTS! There are many threads here about the topic of quilt labels, so be sure to read up on that topic...and when you get the information on your family's quilts, remember it's never too late to label them!

Get a real close-up with a ruler in the picture, it is easier to see. I think I have one from a project that isn't finished yet, let me see. Can you see the hand quilted stitches? Of course on an older quilt, (this hasn't been washed yet) the stitches will seem more hidden.

My gosh you are a lucky man and it sounds like you know it. A Bernina from your wife and heirlooms from other family members. Tells me you are also a good man. Since you're new to quilting you will want to know what to look for when admiring these quilts. Sounds like you have a good eye as you can tell the quilting is done by hand. Notice how the points match? Very nicely and precisely done. There's a lot to be learned by examining these quilts closely. Good luck with your new hobby and please post pictures of your work.
