When I started reading her books, I didn't realize there was a somewhat order to them. It is best if you start with the first one and then move on. You can look in the preface where the books are listed and see what order they were written in. Maybe your local library has the collection. It is worth a try.

I was reading the Elm Creek series in order but read one of the later ones (The Giving Quilt) out of order and didn't have a problem. She gives a lot of information that fills in background. As for Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker...it was good reading but I found that I was plowing thought lots and lots of descriptive war information. Her descriptions of Mrs. Lincoln's wardrobe left me longing to see pictures of these beautiful dresses. JC is really a gifted writer who does her homework.

I haven't cared for the last three books either. I've yet to finish the Union Soldiers or The Spymistress. And it took me forever to get through Mrs Lincoln's Dressmaker. I too would like more stories about the Elm Creek Quilters.

I would read them in order. They are the best. I believe I still have some not sure which was going to be offering them but just getting over surgery and wasn't able to go thru my boxes. will let you know in a day or 2 which I have and will list them in the correct section. LOL~~

I'm not much of a reader, struggle with reading, hands on kind of person.. When I reach apartment life based on income, it be a must to read, avoiding the constant annoying issues of apartment life while poverty. So I work on reading more, find people who read are very interesting in conversation.. I started the New Year's and made half mark, LARGE PRINT love her book.. Think I be tempted to read another.

I agree with the majority here. They're best read in order. I initially got all of the Elm Creek series from my library, then I found a book at my quilt shop that had the first 3 or 4 of them in one volume and bought it. If your library doesn't have them, you might see if you can have them do an inter-library loan.
