Why the rush?? If this is your first GGC, I would wait and see what it is, and then make something fabulous!! How many firsts will get you?

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family! My son and daughter-in-law also chose to be surprised at birth. She did have a color theme though. I made them a Yellow Brick Road crib quilt in the colors, teal, yellow and gray. I was quite pleased with the finished quilt, and so were they! For the backing I used fabric with kittens on it, as they love cats!

There is a baby quilt I always make for my family living in the lower 50. I make a North American animal paper piece work quilt, usually 8 - 12 alternating 7" blocks then add borders and binding. I quilt the American flag on it. It is Always a favorite of the receiver. Just a suggestion.

I am finishing up a baby quilt for a great-nephew due in May. I wasn't having much luck finding boy prints that went with the nursery colors of baby blue and cream, so I went with solids. I found many shades of blue Kona and Moda Bella FQ online and cut 60degree triangles. It would have been a fast quilt if I had machine quilted it, but I decided to hand quilt it. I think it is my favorite baby quilt.

My niece and her DH decided not to find our the gender of their baby. She also wasn't helpful about deciding on a nursery theme. She did finally say that they liked animals, particularly the jungle animals they saw on their honeymoon in Costa Rica, and "bright colors" would be good. I had a yard of this Moda "Silly Safari" jungle print in my stash and just alternated 6" plain blocks with pinwheels in rainbow colors. The back is a soft green flannel with jungle animals and rainbows, and it was quilted with a jungle animal panto that my LAQ had. They loved it and it gets used a lot!
