Hi Peg!
Hi Karen!! You'll love I Spy!
I'm also okay to wait for more people. I already have mine cut (though hope to gather more food fabrics - I have peaches, blueberries and strawberries is far).

I won't be joining this time because I don't have at ten different fabrics to swap. The new rules make it kind of challenging in that we used to be able to only buy a couple of fabrics and send ten/twenty squares of them.

I'm so sorry for the new challenges. Believe me, it saves at least 5 hours of tedious, back straining WORK for the swapper by have only to swap bag for bag. It only takes 1/8 yard to cut one row (8 squares) of I Spys... not much at all if you have to buy new fabric.

Hey, come on, everyone! Join in and stop lurking. Sewbizgirl is right...just buy a small bit of a few fabrics and it will feel like you are buying MORE, though you aren't really. Plus then YOU get to "sample" several different I Spy fabrics you've wanted. Mine are all cut, but I nabbed this for next time...

It will be great for anyone who does ABC I Spy quilts and gets as frustrated as I do with the letter X!! (Sorry, xylophone should definitely have been spelled with a Z!!)

NOT trying to be argumentative, only informative: depending on who's cutting fabric at the quilt store, I get 4 1/2" for 1/8 of a yard, not 5". There's one employee who will give me the extra 1/2 inch and cut it at 5", but both owners cut at 4 1/2".

Just beware, quilters, that you're not buying something you can't use for the swap.

If I get 1/4 a yard, that's only 9", so there's a wasted 4" (wasted if I'm only buying for the I Spy). I've got to go 1/3 yard to get 2 rows with a leftover 2 inch strip.

Just a thought, there is a quilt shop I go to that has tons of fat quarter novelty fabric. I am able to get 12
squares from each piece. The more you buy the prices lowers. Perhaps you can find such a deal.

Yep, that was my mistake. 1/8 of a yard is indeed 4.5". But, you can always ask for 5" (or 6" to be safe) of fabric to be cut.

I was just trying to find a new way to bag the swaps that would actually keep this swap running. Owlvamp did hours of work every time, and got tired and burned out. I did it that way exactly ONCE and will not do it again. This is the reason for the new method. Most of the swaps on the board that are for smaller squares swap bag-for-bag.

Save those leftover strips from cutting! Here is a quilt I made with mine:
