Yes, I do. I usually wash them as harshly as I can to make sure they don't fall apart. I don't want someone to put one in the washing machine and find out that the quilt doesn't stay together or bleeds. I do this because most people I know would just throw it in the machine too.

I don't. I don't have easy access to a Washer/dryer now that I live in an apartment complex where the items cost quarters and it two large building down from where I live.

Wash that quilt!! I am begging you, if you have indoor pets, you HAVE to wash that quilt! As someone who has a severe allergy to cats, I cannot stress how important it is to take every precaution to not put someone in the ER from a gift! Wash it and package it immediately to try and keep pet hair/dander off of it. I know this sounds dramatic but if you've ever had your throat swell shut you would never want that for anyone. What are the odds? Probably slim. But I don't want to be the one to give a quilt only to make the recipient or their family member sick.

I feel the same way. Besides, I like the way it feels when it comes out all crinkly. I love the feel of texture. No one has ever said anything about my quilts looking "used" because I washed them.

Yes I wash before gifting for the same reasons as already listed. I've got to know how it will perform. My own are usually washed.

I wash and dry (for a few minutes and then air dry) all lap and baby quilts as well as coverlets before gifting or donating.

Me too. I use All hypoallergenic detergent and no scented dryer sheets. I note that all fabric is all cotton, batting, etc. My quilts are made to be used and loved, so passing the washer test in MY home is key to the gifting process. If it tends to lose some color I will gift a box of color catchers too.

Always! I want to remove any dirt, body oils, or markings and I want to be the first to know if there are any problems. I always wash with several color catchers. I do not dry any of my quilts completely. I damp dry then air dry.

I always wash my quilts first, for all the same reasons as everyone else. I do let the recipients know that it has been washed and dried and if it bled or not. If it does, even just a little, they get a couple of color catchers with it. I do pre- wash my fabric with color catchers.
I just gave a trainer from my gym a quilt for his 5 month old son. He said his wife really loved it and said it looks to nice to use. I told him that I make quilts to be used, so use it. If it does need any minor repairs in the future, let me know so I can fix it to be used more.
