    Cathy, Does yours have a belt to run the bobbin winder? If my perspective is accurate a dedicated belt or treadle belt is needed to run the bobbin winder.

    Ron,

    Good eye! There is a spring in a loop shape that stretches from the motor pulley to the bobbin winder.
    I'll post a picture when I get home tonight.

    looks a little Rube Goldberg-ish, might shoulda been an o-ring stretch type belt??

    I agree, however, maybe the rubber or plastics industries was not developed at the time.

    It does look like a Rube Goldberg type idea. However, in it's simplicity it does work very well
    The circular spring for bobbin winding is original. Over the years I have had several of these motors
    come with springs. Here it is shown in the manual.

    I found this blog and it explained the odd spring in the carry case under the machine. The picture was helpful. I have been told mine is a S40 model made by National. I need to learn how to thread it.
