Default Quilting on white fabric

I just finished a baby quilt that had some white fabric on the front and rust colored minky on the back. The rust colored minky threads pulled through to the white on the front when I quilted it. I assume with use and washing the minky threads will disappear from the quilting on the white. Does anyone know for sure ?

Having never used minky, and likely won't ever, I couldn't say.

Do you mean the needle pulled minky threads up through the batting so they are visible underneath the white fabric on top? If this is the case, then what kind of batting did you use? Can you post a photo?

I don't have a picture, the quilt has been given to the to the mother to be. I don't remember what batting I used. I'm sure it was either cotton or 80\20 batting. The needle pulled the minky threads so you can see them on top of the white at each needle hole. Not at every hole but enough to make the quilted area look like a dot to dot that children do to learn their numbers. It has happened before but wasn't noticeable because I've never used white fabric always a colored or print fabric.

I love having minky on the backs of my quilts, you should try it sometime.

Wow. I'm not sure why that happened, unless perhaps the tension between your threads was unbalanced. My thinking is that the top tension was too tight and the bobbin tension too loose, so the bobbin thread caught the minky and the top thread pulled both to the top.

Threads (meaning your top and bobbin machine threads) do tend to balance out after washing, so it may take care of the problem. However, there's no way to know for sure until the quilt is washed. I think a cotton or 80/20 batting is likely to help with this more than a polyester batting, since cotton batting shrinks a little, which in turn pulls on the quilting threads.

Can you use a needle to go in the hole and sweep it from side to side to pull the Minky back to the batting.

I think it would take forever to pull the minky threads aside but thanks for your suggestion.

Prism99, thanks for your thoughts. It didn't occurs to me that the tension would be off. I had a quilt, quilted by a long arm quilter a few years ago. Same thing happened, she didn't think it was a problem. The idea of the batting shrinking sounds like it might work. I hope it works, thanks.
