Which cabinet for a 1887 Vs2 fiddle bed,please?
Hello :-) thank you for reading my post. I will be receiving a VS2 floral fiddle base sewing machine head. I have three other treadle sewing machine’s. A 127, 27, and 66. Could someone please so kindly tell me what type of cabinet the 1887 fiddle bed Machine head belongs in? I found a sewing machine cabinet on craigslist – a five drawer, like the one my 1910 127 is in. The oldest cabinet with machine Here at the moment,is my 27, dating to 1894.
I am really hopeful that the fiddle base 27 sewing machine will fit into the one I found on craigslist. I looked at the information on the 27 model series, and their measurements are all the same including the fiddle base, but I am wondering about the hinges? Thank you for any andAll information.

I know almost nothing about machines of that age. However, if I needed information about it, I would post on Victoriansweatshop.com.
We have a really helpful group here. However. the hardcore really old machine heads post on that group. Some people overlap, too.

this is the machine that came with it.
This is what the top looks like, and there is an insert that fits in this that the head sits on top of. The hinges are quite different - they don't remove from the machine like they do on the 27 that has the set screws. You can see one of them sticking out on the back side.
There are others, this was a fancier model.

Leon has a VS2 - Fleamarket find - Singer VS2 fiddleback The hinge pins are indeed different. They have the actual pins attached to the machine head, as can only lift it up to oil and would have a bonnet instead of lowering into the cabinet. My cabinet is in the garage. The cut out is different than the 27. I'm thinking singerco.com may have the manual http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/649_2vs.pdf & http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/650_2vs.pdf

tscweaves: I bought the exact same 1891 Singer fiddle bed 2 weeks ago! It's in good shape, too; I don't think I'll have to strip the cabinet, I'm going to try Glenn's formula for restoring the finish. The only flaw it has is the central drawer: the two decorative slanted corner pieces were pulled off, and there's just the bare wood of the drawer exposed. I'm planning to teach myself how to do a little simple woodworking, so once I get a band saw and a router, I'll set about trying to reproduce those corners.
