It looks like the finished product was well worth the tedium. You made a beautiful flag!

Hahaha - they already have their own flag! It just says 20-J.
And the trumpets have a simple one too.
BUT I noticed at the last game both their flags were one sided.
So I'm tickled silly that I took the time to make ours 2 sided. =)

I sat in a line for a long time getting into a music festival on Saturday and had the opportunity to see these state flags for more time than I wanted. Few look good from the back side. I would appreciate yours.

The particular kind of tuba The Southerners use is Conn upright 20-J bass. 20J's for short. They are OLD, and no longer made. The Southerners are known for their BIG sound - and they march with 30 to 35+ of these horns. Talk about a SOLID low brass section! WOW! They weigh about 60lbs each and are carried in their arms (as opposed to a sousaphone which rides on the player's shoulder. The 20Js have to use a strap to carry them because they are so big & heavy. Whenever someone (alumni or band director friends) find an old 20J - it's considered a treasure. The music dept buys them & fixes them. I'm sure that's a lot more than you wanted to know...hahaha, but you asked. =)

If you are into marching bands - this is their show from 2 years ago. (My DS was a freshman then.) It is truly one of the BEST shows I've ever experienced. Yes, I said experienced. The WALL of sound from this band can be felt. And the heart in this show - a salute to Pearl Harbor on its 75 anniversary - brought the audience to tears.

My son will give the flag to the sax section just before the game this Saturday. I can't wait to see their reaction!
This year's show theme is 'Home'...and after the JSU campus took a direct hit from the F3 tornado this past March, it took on a whole new meaning for the school, band and town. Home is a blessing, in so many ways. =)

BLOW SOUTHERNERS!!!
