Default Hard to find red hot candies

I had a hankering for cinnamon popcorn about 2 weeks ago and my recipe calls for red hots. Took my weekly trip to Walmart to do grocery shopping & could not find them. Ask a lady who was working on the candy isle & she didn't even know what they were. Today I went to the Dollar Tree & thought I would look for them there...none to be found. I asked at the check out counter & the youngster didn't know what they were. They seem to be getting harder & harder to find. Last year I did find some at Walmart but it took me several trips before they even had any.
Question: If you buy red hots, where do you get them?

If I find some I'm wondering if I can freeze them using my Food Saver system for later times when they are so hard to find.

Did you try Cracker Barrel? They do have the older candy you remember as a kid. Call them.

I would think you could freeze them. Found these on Amazon (they have others too):

It has been several years since I bought them. I do love them without the popcorn.

Our grocery store has them in the cake and cookie decorator area. During the Valentine's Day season they have them in the candy isle. We have CVS and Walgreens and they carry them on a fairly regular basis. My DH loves them so we buy them on a fairly regular basis.
I never heard of using them in popcorn. Do you just throw them on when the popcorn is hot?

I use them in making cinnamon pickles. I’ve always found them at the grocery store: Kroger.

I don't think you'd need to freeze them as they are hard and really don't lose their "zip". My mom used them to make the sugar syrup and then put apples in to cook. Peel and core the apples, put them into the syrup to cook, turn them over about 1/2 way through. Taste good and very pretty. Now what's your recipe for the popcorn?

Seems to me that they are sometimes with the candies and sometimes with the little cake decorations such as sprinkles. Now you've got me wondering.......
