By all means keep one for yourself. You can make others to give away. It'll all come out even in the end.

Definitely agree with Lynnie. The charity recipient might not appreciate it as much as you. There's nothing wrong with keeping these quilts.

Sounds great, but instead of charity, I would finish one and give it to her husband.

I agree. Keep it to remind you of the generosity of others and to give you a smile whenever you look at it. She had a wonderful husband who knew what to do with her 'lovies' instead of just dumping them in a store.

My MIL was a prolific charity quilter. When she passed, her church wanted us to have a couple of the quilts she had made that year, since the quilts were for comfort and we were in need right then. So we kept those quilts, since they meant a lot to us. I had even helped her with design on both, since she always had a quilt out for design "help". Anyway.

In return, I made a quilt of my own for the church donations. My plan is to make 2, but haven't decided what to do for the next one.

So if you like the quilts, keep them. If you feel you need to make a quilt for charity, make one yourself. Her quilts will have more sentimental value to you than to the charity recipient, but the charity recipient will still get a quilt.

And I also like the idea of finishing one of the quilts for her husband. But you may not even need to do that, because I'll bet he already has some of her quilts that she specifically made for him.

Good luck!

I'm sure she would love that you kept the one you wanted and donated the other.

What a beautiful story! I am so glad you returned the signed and dated cross stitch to the family. (They should be more careful looking through her things before offering them up like that. I have heard lots of stories of family members finding money in all sorts of crazy places where their deceased loved one hid it, like in battery compartments of clocks, under soles of shoes, etc.)
