Before buying it anywhere, check out the price on quiltinaday. They usually have the best prices on new software, but I don't know how their prices on upgrades compare. At this point I'm looking forward to EQ9, whenever it comes out.

i also have Dear Jane and Blockbase. Is Dear Jane worth keeping and do you know about Blockbase?

Sign up for their newsletter and you'll be notified of sales. I bought the upgrade for 30% off/ That;s about as good as it gets around major holidays. But they also have more frequent 25% off. Have had zero, zilch, zippo issues about the upgrade. Do the price comparison and go the least expensive route but be prepared for A LEARNING CURVE.

I guess I could ask Google, but this group seems a bit smarter. Do you know about when version 8 came out or is there’s whispers about a new version? I’m trying to see if I should wait for a new version or just use what I have for a while.

I bought EQ8 a few weeks ago and asked customer service if EQ9 was on the horizon before I spent the money for 8. The CSR I spoke to said 9 is not even in development yet.

I upgraded from 4 to 6, and skipped 5 completely. I don't know about 5, but 4 had a major problem with it. When it calculated the fabric yardage for long strips like borders, it assumed that each border was one piece and that you could only get one strip from a length of fabric. So for a 2-inch border on a lap quilt that measures 45"x60", it said you needed 5 7/8 yards! You only need 5 WOF strips for that size, 12 1/2 inches if you cut them at 2 1/2.

I really liked 7, but it wasn't compatible with Windows 10.

I don't have Blockbase. I bought the Dear Jane software because I wanted to make a DJ quilt. Years later, and I haven't started. If you ever want to make one of these quilts, the software can be a big help. You can print out the blocks for paper piecing or applique patterns from it. And you can keep track of which blocks you've made, and try out various color schemes.

    Hi,
I have EQ8. I've gotten as far as designing a couple of quilts, but honestly, its been so long ago, I'm back to square one.

What I want to do right now, is basically design a quilt in EQ8 that I have the pattern for so that I can change the size and put my fabric choices in to get a visual. My problem is that it is designed in Rows using a trapezoid shaped block with adjoining triangles. One other row is triangles alternating with offsetting triangles, i.e. one up/one down, with a sashing strip thrown in. Can I design a block that is a trapezoid and contains smaller trapezoid piecing? I was thinking of doing a horizontal layout, but if I can't design a trapezoid block I'm stuck. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. The pattern uses templates for cutting the trapezoids and triangles, but they are all basically using 30 and 60 degree angles.

I've been searching around the EQ site and have most of their books for the software, but can't find where my question is addressed anywhere. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kathy

For anyone looking to buy EQ8, check on Amazon in the "damaged" section. I got mine at a super good price because the packaging was damaged.

I have drawn something like that in EQ7 but I do it for the length of the border, so there are no single blocks. I would suggest draw out the rest of the quilt and have all of the blocks or rows in the quilt to give you an idea how long your border should be. Then you can calculate how high the border should be and how many traps you want in it. If the border is too long to do it in one swath in EQ8, you can make 2 or even 3 pieces. Then you set that border as blocks. If you only have 1 block, then you put 1. In EQ7, you can tell each side of the quilt to have different numbers of blocks. It's just according to the length and how many times you could divide it to make your pattern come out right. Now, having said all this, I don't have EQ8 yet.

I’m throwing in the towel on this one! Too much to figure out in too little time. Back to my trusty graph paper and calculator. I love the thought of being proficient at EQ8, but I only have so much time and energy to devote to quilting and maybe the software just takes more than I want to devote to it. I had EQ7 too, but have found 8 a lot easier to follow in my limited experience.
