I have just had a reply back and here it is
Yes I am aware of this issue on some types of Foot Controllers, in most cases it can be rectified with an Internal adjustment in the Foot Controller.
If you are in the area of Janome Seven Hills please call in and we will assist, if not convenient please call at you nearest Janome Dealer ( addresses found on www.janome.com.au )
( Unfortunately there is no Customer service procedure for this as there is an Electrical safety issue so it must be inspected by a Authorised Technician )
If you choose Hobbysew Top Ryde you will need to ask them all those questions as every Dealership has different repair processes.
Please call them and ask their costs etc.
Most new foot controls cost $ 89.00 - $109.00 depending on the type, so please ask the store what they charge, before you go ahead.
We can check it here for you free of charge, if it needs adjustment then a reasonable fee ( $25.00 -$40 ) may apply but you will need to bring your machine also.
So that is the response. I live quite a drive - over an hour from Seven Hills on a good day without traffic so will have a think about this. I am very happy with the machine it does everything that I need and more and I have lived without the pedal for several years so I guess I will continue on doing so. I will be at the Top Ryde store tomorrow and will call in to ask the relevant questions.

Wow! I nver thought to clean my foot controller! Thanks for the heads up!
We should all be getting regular maintenance and cleaning for our machines. No brand is exempt.

Sorry to tell you but its the foot pedal, the capacitor is going south, it happened to my Bernina and the cost was sky high fortunately I got a generic one at a good price and it works a treat.

This seems to be a common Janome problem. My machines has done it right from the word go and I should have taken it back but did not only because after some observation I noticed when I have a computer on in the same room it does not like it or when I am sewing on a retreat and other machines are going at the same time. I also have a wireless intercom in my sewing room and that also interfers with it when on.
Solution for me is to not use the foot pedal - only when winding my bobbin and then remove the foot pedal from the machine and use my stop/start button.
Perhaps we should bombard Janome with an email at the sametime complaining about their foot pedals and ask why we are all having this problem. Some computer chip problem or????????? which is common to their machines.

My Janome 6500 did the same thing. I took it to 3 cities and 3 repairmen. One said it was an internal maintenance problem, another sold me a new foot, and the last declared it was in my imagination. No one ever has problems with Janomes! I mailed my old foot pedal to Janome asking for information. Nine months later they mailed it back without a note of advice or concern. So I bought a 7700 and it's a piece of junk, parts falling out of it, repairs repeated that last days. Explains why they've quit making it but don't do recalls like cars. Blind eye is cheaper.

I'm so glad for this board. Now I know several of you are having this problem too. So frustrating. I will take my machine in to the dealer. Thanks for the insight; I can speak to him as if I know something. btw - my Memory Craft 9000 is going on 20 years. Problems have been few and far between.

Memory craft speeds up
I have a Janome that is about 4-5 years old. It's done this a little over the years, but lately is worse: sometimes when I take my foot off the foot pedal, it keeps going. Lately it's nearly every time. I've checked to be sure nothing is lodged in it. I've also tried unplugging the foot and using the start/stop button. It was working to do that until tonight. Tonight it not only kept sewing using the button, but after I hit stop or lifted my foot (depending on which method I was trying), it would go FASTER! I turned down the speed & it still sped up. I normally keep my machine off unless I am sewing, but last week I left it on b/c I had adjusted the setting and didn't want to have to reset it. My daughters found it sewing all by itself, so they asked if they could go ahead & turn it off, which of course I let them do.
I looked & the last post I could find on this topic was from 2010, so I thought I'd see if anyone lately has had this happen & if there is an answer for it. Thanks!
