I have a few of the Crabapple Hill patterns... I haven't finished any but they are in my "Someday" stack. I love her combination of hand embroidery, quilting, and hand-coloring.

I love to hand embroider. I always like to have something to do by hand while traveling on road trips. I have 2 projects (the same project) to complete now. I have completed 6 redwork Christmas quilts (the 12 days of Christmas) and have given them as gifts. Have 2 more to finish up and that project will be done. I also love Crabapple Hill patterns...I have them to still do.....The Thanksgiving one (Over the river and thru the hills), a Halloween one (I think it has witches) and another one called Snowy Days. I also like to crochet and knit (in addition to quilting), so I've always got something to work on!

Yes, of course people do hand embroidery still. Have a look at the Royal College of Needlework website - UK, yes, but I imagine that there must be some alumni from there in the US, and I imagine that there must be some Art courses that involve embroidery in the US?

Several women in my quilting group do hand embroidery. In fact, they've gotten me interested in it again and I've started practicing. There's a great website that someone here mention called pintagle.com. The most amazing embroidery!

Google "Crazy Quilt" / "Crazy Quilting" / "Crazy Quilt Stitches" / "Embroidery Stitches" / etc. for fantastic Eye Candy.

Handwork is alive and well!

I do all the time. I need to know if anyone has seen these little houses and where I can get the patterns again.

I also incorporate embroidery in my quilts, mostly flowers. Used to do counted cross stitch but it is harder on the eyes and definitely takes longer.

Yes! I love any type of hand embroidery! Most of my sewing friends do also. It is still a craft that is alive and well. There are many websites that have free projects to do. Wool applique also has a big following.
