Default Hand Quilting Thread

What is your favorite hand quilting thread that doesn’t easily break or fray?

I like plain old Coats for hand quilting. It's worked well for me for 36 years.

I like various threads. Really don't have a favorite, per se. I use whatever brand has the color I want for any given quilt. I very much do like 'Thread Heaven'. It is a thread conditioner. After I snip off the length of thread from the spool, I run that through the thread heaven. This product works amazingly well to reduce tangling. However, I'm not sure it's made any longer. But if you can find some, it's fabulous. You can also use beeswax for that purpose if you can't find the Thread Heaven.

I've tried different threads recommended by notable hand quilters and they all seem to work just fine - Aurifil, Wonderfil, Superior in a variety of weights. I've never had any of these break or fray. They just have a different feel and appearance on your project. I think it's just like needles - the best one is the one that works best for you.

I heartily agree with NJ Quilter - Thread Heaven is a wonderful product that I would recommend using with whichever thread you select. It surely makes a big difference by keeping your thread de-tangled. I also keep my thread length to 18-24" max which works best for me.

Would love to see your handwork!

I like YLI hand quilting. Lot of info about their threads here: https://www.friestyle.com/yli-thread/

YLI wooden spools are made from Ash manufactured in NJ.

I've used Gutermann's and the Superior Threads brand, both are good.

Thank you all. I’m going to see if Thread Heaven is still made.
