Need advice on what is the best batting for a baby quilt

Last week I sat through a very extensive presentation by a representative from Hobbs about various types of batting and their uses. It was an excellent presentation that covered several things I had never considered when choosing batting. One of the things I found helpful was this chart:

Since baby quilts are now used for tummy time rather then sleeping under, that may give you some ideas.

I use Quilters Dream batting for all my quilts, baby quilts, included. Usually, the Select weight cotton. Recently, I've been using their 80/20 since it gives a nice loft to the quilting. QD has very little shrinkage in general which I like. I have used the polyester for a quilt that was meant for hard use. Even the polyester feels nice. If you look up QD website, you will find a full description of each style. All high quality in my opinion.

That word "best" is SO subjective, because the answer depends on so many things that only you know.

Do you want batting that is....
fluffy and thick?
thin and drape-able?
flame retardant?
affordable/inexpensive?
environmentally conscious and sustainable?

The answer is different for each one.

For baby and children's quilts, I always use poly. It does not wick up moisture (from oopsies, whether drool or from the other end) like 80/20, washes extremely well and dries quickly.

yak, I prefer poly batting for baby quilts. I make them larger, not quite twin size maybe half twin size. They are tummy time quilts. The larger size is perfect for those pushups and rolling overs.
