    I was at LQS this morning. One lady came in and was all in a tizzy. Her brand new B990 she took home last week won't sew. Dealer said probably a sensor. Said it would be about four weeks at the least to get it checked by the tech. They are back logged with machines to be fixed. Imagine spending about 25k and a week later it's in the shop for a month or more. The customer said no, that is not acceptable. I left so I don't know the outcome.

    You're a better person that I, Onebyone. I woulda grabbed my popcorn and watched from behind a couple of bolts of fabric. 😆

    Me, too!

    I would have been very very very very unhappy if that happened to me.

    Seems like their "older" machines - say like from the 1980s - have much better manners than some of the new ones they've released.

    I admit I love to look at these monster machines but would not actually want one.

    FWIW here is what I ended up with:

    Years ago I bought a used Bernina Artista 170, which came with the embroidery module. I do not care for machine embroidery, so have never used it, but the 170 is a darned dependable piecing machine.

    I also bought a Juki 2010Q just for free motion quilting (bigger throat area), and I would love to get the Juki DDL-8700 for a combo piecing/free motion machine as I love the table setup, but on that machine you cannot drop the feed dogs, what a shame!

    Later, I bought a used, entry level longarm setup for quilting full quilts. It's been a steep learning curve, but I love having the quilt on a longarm. And I have an old Singer Featherweight for portability, and because they are just beautiful objects.

    Believe me I would have stayed for front row seats but the dealer took the woman to her office.

    I am not an embroidery fan, so it really didn't appeal to me in any way. Even if it did, I cannot imagine spending that kind of money on a sewing machine.

    The new 735, however is very appealing to me. If I were shopping for a new machine, that would be a strong contender. I'd have to go to a different dealer, as the one I've always used is not selling or servicing any with a color screen. It would mean an hour drive. I realize that's less than many folks deal with, but I've always had a dealer less than 20 minutes from home.

    ummm....she has had it for a week. Well, when you get a brand new iPhone or iPad or for that matter, washing machine, there is a learning curve to it. I still can't figure out my iPad. Not saying there isn't something wrong with it, that can happen. But I still sometimes can't get my 590 to stitch. So far, it has always been operator error. The upper line of Bernina's just isn't going to stitch if you could end up hurting them. Last time, I forgot to reset my setting for the stitch plate back from the straight stitch plate to the regular one so when I selected a zig-zag stitch, nope, it wouldn't let me....grrrrrr! Another thing I had problems with at first was not closing the bobbin door. So the machine kept stopping. Yikes, yep got to have the bobbin door shut. hopefully they got the issue resolved. And yeah, the dealer needs to the tech to check it out. A simple featherweight or mechanical machine can probably be checked out by just about anyone but those newer machines that can do so much need someone with the expertise and training.

    I wonder why the dealer automatically said it must be a sensor? That raised a flag for me. If I remember the demo right, anything preventing the machine from sewing is a text on the screen to check something. Hopefully it was something simple.

    Default Love my Bernina 990

    I just had to chime in. I knew the 990 was for us right after hearing about it so my husband and I became Charter Members and had one of the first 990s in our area. It performs way better than expected and worth every penny. I have a longarm but cannot stand to custom quilt my quilts. I can now do all that in the Jumbo Hoop. As well as alter the quilt design in 100's of ways. The Super Wide throat space makes it easy to piece King Size quilts as well. Very Happy with our purchase!
