Default Presser bar spring broken

New to the board here.

I have a Singer 185J and I'm trying to restore it to former glory.
I just discovered that the presser bar spring 170067 is broken. I see one website that has some, but with shipping it's about 30 dollars. Are there any alternatives, or should I bite the bullet and get an original spring?

Thanks all.

Have you looked on Ebay? I'm no longer a regular user, but they used to have lots of sewing machine parts listed there.

Ebay would be my suggestion also. You might have to look for a bit, but most things show up sooner or later.

If you are trying to restore it to original condition, then you'd have to obtain an original spring.

If you want to make it functional, take the pieces you have to a hardware store that has individual springs, you might be able to approximate an original for a lot less money.

Or you could try this

Replacement Presser Bar Spring -Part # 45745 – Central Michigan Sewing Supplies (vintagesingerparts.com)

I have no affiliation with this company.

I would go with the replacement. Note they are now in Florida. I have done business with them a number of times with great service.

Thanks all,
I already had looked on ebay, so nothing currently.

My main concern is to make it functional. So I might try a fix first that I've come up with.
Will tell more if it works.

Thank you, Chris
