Your quilt is beautiful. I love Civil War fabrics. The machine quilting is outstanding!

Oh how nice this turned out. I hope you are able to give it back. She would be so happy to have a family heirloom that she would treasure.

treasures from the attic, created beautiful quilt.
sometimes the fabric has to talk awhile longer for us to hear where and what pattern to use.

I know parting with this quilt would be difficult for you because of how beautiful it turned out. No wonder your friend was gobsmacked! (love that word you used. Entering quilt shows will be fun for you. As for gifting the quilt back, take your time deciding whether that is what you wish to do. Ask yourself a few questions to help you decide, such as: Was your friend close to this aunt? Would your friend be happy with another quilt made by you as a thank you for the fabric she gifted you? Do you have any scrap fabrics , that you may can turn into another project for her? Good luck in your quilt shows!

I am also not a fan of Civil War reproduction fabrics, but I love what you did with these.

It turned out so well. I can see why you might want to keep it.
