Terriamn, I don’t know that they’re specifically Christmas Cookies but Pecan Tassies are my all time favorites. My grandmother always made them at Christmas so I make them every few years since DH and I eat the vast majority of them! Gosh, maybe I should make some this year…

My friend’s Christmas party today was just wonderful. A group of 18 women who only quieted down when they were eating some scrumptious dishes. My Pumpkin Cheesecake was the most remarked about item there. Everyone wanted the recipe. I was thrilled and humbled. I left on a cloud!

Got a little time today to do some shopping. We got some small items for both grands. They’re both girlie girls so we bought little purses, some clothes and then a few books. It was fun.

Ernie is still doing well. He’s always ready to go for a walk. He runs to the door and patiently waits for us.

Have a lovely evening.

Sounds like your kitchen is the place to be, Terri! If I was closer I'd come hang out and help you bake. (And help you sample everything, too.) I hope your friend with cancer is going to be cancer free soon. My SIL had the whipple procedure too, but she had different cancer-- in her stomach. She ended up dying a couple of summers ago.

I would love to have your sugar free cheesecake recipe. Hubby loves cheesecake but is diabetic.

TG, never heard of the game "Left, right, center". Your Courthouse lighting ceremony sounds beautiful.

Lstew, good for you, getting all those Christmas gifts sewn. I haven't made any gifts this year.

Janice, Ernie is adorable! I see he has a new green coat. Are you able to walk with him outside? Congrats on the Pumpkin Cheesecake. I'll bet it was 'killer'!

Oh, Sewbiz, L/R/C is fun and you can play it with a three-year-old or a great grandma. I have played it for individually wrapped candy, peanuts in the shell and at quilting events with charm squares.

Favorite Christmas cookie, hummm? I guess some thing I call sugar plums. It is baked in a dish, casserole style, then when it cools a bit, you roll it into balls then roll the balls in sugar. You only need one of these sweet treats. Filled with chopped dates, walnuts, a couple of eggs, coconut and almond extract. No flour Perfect with a cup of tea or as a secret treat.

Sewing for Christmas is .... not this year. Maybe will make a felt applique heart for my daughter. She has been getting heart decorations since she was a little bit of a thing. I can manage that little project.

Just got home from Christmas band concert for my youngest grandchild. He plays the bassoon. Who would have thought that this tall, nature loving, rock collecting, snuggle bunny, that is pushing his way to 6 feet would choose the bassoon. Well, his auntie, my second daughter chose the oboe at 5th grade and played it all the way through college. So, why not a bassoon at 7th. He has been begging for bassoon since 4th grade. Glad he found an instrument that brings makes him smile.

WMUT I have never heard of your plum cookie but sure sounds good

Sewbiz it would be wonderful if you were closer to sit and chat with while baking, sure it would be much more enjoyable. Our friends had stopped by after I had the tree about 1/3 decorated. My girl friend joined me in finishing up the tree, it was fun telling her where the different ornaments were from and of course we have a few felt stars with pictures of the grands when they were little peanuts that she ohhed and awed over. It was the first time I was decorating the tree alone and her helping made it so much more enjoyable

Janice I followed a recipe on the rollo candy bag where you take a small pretzel, place a rollo on it, baked for a few minutes and add pecan on top.

TG congratulations on winning left, right and center. We are going to a Christmas party Friday and will be playing it and again on Christmas Eve we will play with the family. I have never won.

Minus 7 here this am. Last year at this time it was 54. What a difference.

Morning all. 20s here but warning up to 40 today. Terriamn, I know those Rolo Pretzels well. So easy and delish!

I just realized I never put together a lap quilt for DH and now he’s going to be around until Christmas so there’s little chance of quilting it without him seeing it. Well, that’s not quite true. If he gets involved watching a football game I’ll have a few hours. But I have a question for those of you who work with minky type backings. How would you do it? I didn’t realize how slippery it is! I’ve got a pieced flannel top, no batting, and I realize it’s going to be a challenge to keep it from slipping. Spray baste seems like a good option with some pins for added security. I’ll be straight line quilting it vertically and horizontally. I’m assuming a walking foot would be best. Any and all suggestions appreciated!!!

Have a coffee “date” with some ladies but that’s my last function until after the holidays. I’m not used to going here and there several times a week so being home almost everyday for a couple of weeks sounds marvelous.

Hope you all have a good day. The weekend is coming!

I just tried these cranberries soaked in Blackberry Crowne Royal liquor overnight at room temperature, then dried a little bit in the oven and rolled in powdered sugar. They taste a little like sour patch kids with a burst of flavor. You cannot really tell that there is alcohol in them. Wow what a surprise. Apparently, the Blackberry Crowne Royal is sold out most places here because of the recipe. My friend also makes grapes, but soft-freezes them and rolls them in sugar-free Jello, she says that they are also fantastic. She says it is important to let them soak at room temperature overnight or 24 hours because they soak up better at room temperature than in the fridge. Thought I would pass it along. She is on a diabetes diet and apparently this recipe is circulating as it is low sugar. Hugs!

I think my favorite Christmas cookies are the plain vanilla cutout sugar cookies, with frosting. They always taste like Christmas to me.
Mom used to make rum balls, which as I recall, were nothing more than crushed up vanilla wafers, then some dry cocoa and rum added. Then they get rolled into little balls and rolled in white sugar. NOT baked, so the rum is real, not cooked away. You get a little "warm fuzzy" feeling with every one! HA.
I miss helping Mom bake Christmas cookies. She also had one favorite she got off the corn flakes box. They were coated with corn flakes and then flattened before baking. When they came out of the oven hot, she pressed a sliver of dried cherry on top. She also made the best peanut butter cookies... like shortbread! As an adult I tried to make her recipe and couldn't get past the fact that they were all peanut butter and crisco! Ugh, so I don't make them. I loved them when I didn't know what was in them!
That's true of a lot of things, like scones....

Anyone making toffee?

Sewbiz one of my favorites and exactly why I don’t make it any more is the imitation toffee. You line soda crackers on a jelly roll pan, mix and melt brown sugar and butter together, heat till melted, stir and pour over crackers, bake till crackers are floating, remove from oven, cover mixture with chocolate chips put back in oven till chips have melted. It it sweet and salty. Absolutely delicious

We have our one Christmas party this evening, all friends from the lake and party is only a block away. I bought a silly gaudy Christmas tunic and hubby has several Christmas T’s. Looking forward to a fun evening.

It is -3 this morning but should go up to 18 today. A heat wave. Have to drive to the closest large town to mail off the cookies to my son and granddaughter, glad it will be warming up.

Janice I am like you, I enjoy being with others but really enjoy being at home and not having to be out and about

Oh, Squirrels, you must come to my house now! I’m simmering a spicy black bean soup with lots of aromatic herbs and baking bread. What a joy! The aromas are fabulous!

Have A great day!

Ahhhh Janice I can smell it from here. Will have to send hubby right over, he would love it. Nothing better than the smell of bread baking.
