Bonnie Hunter 2024-25 Mystery -- Old Town
#171
I've had a really busy week so haven't been on here for a few days. You have been a busy bunch. I missed Bonnie's suggestion to press the QSTs open, so mine are spun like I do with four patches. I guess I'll deal with the fall out during assembly. I used the four at a time method of making the HSTs so I'd have a good assortment of colours ( I usually use the magic 8 method). They all went together so quickly. As an experiment I used the block loc ruler to trim them down. I hoped it would snug onto the seam well. I had mixed results but still think it was better than a regular square, especially since I didn't have one that small. Like many of you I'm still pressing and trimming the four patches but will finish tonight really for tomorrow's clue.

Belfrybat - Love your QSTs.
I'm all caught up and ready for tomorrow's clue although I need to do a little sewing for Christmas and a new baby this weekend. I made all 3 clue's using Bonnie's favorite method although I had different rulers than hers. I thought they went together well. I pressed seams open on the QSTs but might have missed this had someone else not mentioned it.

Have finally picked my fabric colors. I am going with whites, reds, royal blues (aqua) and yellow (melon). Planning on making a half size quilt. Will buy a few more yellow fat quarters since my stash is low on yellow. (Have zero melon fabrics). Hope to start sewing over the weekend and I will try to make at least some of each clue. My quilting mojo is low, so maybe this mystery project will help jump start it.
Love seeing everyone's progress and fabric choices. Wondering what Clue 4 will be???

I'm with you, Gemm. I just don't have time to participate this year, but I love seeing what everyone else does. There's so much creativity here. I love seeing choices that I may not have thought of. I am always impressed.
Thanks for sharing all your great ideas. And thanks to Iceblossom for coordinating this group. I appreciate all the work and time involved.

Audsgirl, you are welcome to be a "non-sewing participant". Maybe we'll draw you in next year!
I'm sitting here watching my email and the website for the next clue. Yesterday I did get the last of my clue 2 sewn, keeping in mind that I will be making my top larger and I will probably have to revisit these 4-patches at some point. I still have the majority of them to press.
Husband is going to visit his mom today, she's about 5 hours away and is not doing well. Her health went into a big decline just before Thanksgiving last year and she is not doing well at all. She is entering palliative care and we don't know how much time she has left. I'll be staying at home with the dogs and the sewing.

I always press open and always think, maybe this time I'll follow Bonnie's directions for pressing to the side...

I have switched from max strength to regular strength cold medication, but still very dizzy. My brain works better, though, so I can at least make my choices for clue #4 today. Tomorrow morning is the last time I'm supposed to take it.
I'm pretty sure I don't have 25 different melons, so not sure how I will approach this clue.

Since I am only using one Melon, cutting this went pretty darn easy. Except for when I started out cutting reds and not melons... oh well, caught it in time (or just a few sets anyway) and should be usable pieces.
I'm doing the 4 at a time method since we are doing sets of 4. Of course, I am cutting large and trimming down but I wonder why she didn't mention this option.
I am alternating days with benedryl or claritin to see what works for me. Does seem to be allergies in my case, we have changed the furnace filter.
