Pamelor and b.zang, well done. I like your colours. I feel like the one I made didn't have enough contrast between the light and the medium but those were the fabrics my friend chose so that's the way it turned out.

The best part is I used some stash, the flimsy is ready to be sandwiched and my friend is happy. Now I need a simpler pattern that will go together quickly and easily for a hospital donation quilt.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

Beautiful job, ya'll! b.zang, the variation in reds is very appealing. So are all the scrappier versions. It is just a pattern that works well for all options. Congratulations to all of you who got it done!!

Those are so great - I love being able to see the different approaches/colour choices in these mysteries!

    Officially done with parts 1-6!

I hope to start putting the blocks together tomorrow; seeing everyone else’s has got me motivated!

Well, now that we’re not in a hurry any more, I’m going to just chug along here making ten of the “sub units” and squaring up to 8.5” as I go. I’ll treat these as the blocks on the design wall so that I can move things around. Just from the first batch I’ve thrown on the wall, I can see that my “medium” and “dark” aren’t *near* distinct enough for the pattern to emerge distinctly, but I’m still enjoying seeing it come together!

I spent the day cutting, and have all my squares and triangles read to go. I'm using assorting WoW fabric for the background, and assorted greens/blues/purples in light and dark shades. I'm also using yellow for the "light" star.

Still, just watching. Much like others I have to get a finish for at least one and a baby quilt out of the way before I can start a new one. I am enjoying watching the piles grow and then POOF turn into blocks and tops. I would never have envisioned the final quilt from the directions. Guess that is part of what makes it a mystery, right? Keep on stitching my quilty friends.

I've decided to divide up my pieces into groups of 30 - one for each block. Then sew them one block at a time so I don't feel overwhelmed trying to sew 840 HST at one time. I'm also sorting to keep each block scrappy, and while a bit tedious, I love playing with 2.5" squares so it's all fun for me.

Morning! Just a note to anyone who decides to complete the outer pinwheel like I did….if you have a look at my photo, you can see the dark 1/2 square of the pattern doesn’t complete the way I did mine. I would recommend adding in the dark colours to complete that “line” of dark, just my thoughts.
I circled on the bottom edge of the photo to try to explain better what I mean.

Beautiful fabrics and piecing in yours Thimblebug. I see what you mean about wanting to extend that dark line further but honestly, if you had not pointed it out I would have just registered it as a "modern" look.

Are you going to applique a dark candy over the light ones so your dark line extends on both top and bottom?
