Hobby Lobby here has anything on a bolt 40% off every other week, including Warm and Natural batting. Many buy it by the big roll all at once for the 40% off. It includes all Pellon fusibles and stabilizer, insulbrite, both sided fusible foam/fleece and all fabric including Kona. The next week all yarn, crossstitch, embroidery, etc is 30% off. I think some do not like Hobby Lobby's owner's religious beliefs.

Throughout this thread several people have made disparaging comments about Hobby Lobby, without elaborating on why they wouldn't shop there. Why? Our HL is nice and clean and well stocked. It's a pleasure to shop there all except for one thing... their checkouts are very slow. Cashiers are still hand entering prices, while most all other stores have gone to scanning at the registers. If they would update their checkout process it would relieve this log jam at the registers. But otherwise, it's a nice place to shop.

I hope the one by me stays open. I went the last month, and the fabric inventory was rather sparse, and I did ask them if the store was closing, and they said no. The store is sort of a mess, I want to clean and organize it LOL! I am not sure why the manager would leave it looking like it does, but assume it is lack of employees. There is another about 15 miles away and that one is so much cleaner and organized.

I found that the quality of joanns quilt fabric really deteriorated. The last straw was their selection of 'batiks' that were just printed on one side! Ugh. I started ordering from Marshall's Dry Goods which is fabulous.

"Reached for comment by Fast Company, Joann spokesperson Amanda Hayes confirmed the closings in a statement.“As part of the ongoing Chapter 11 process and our efforts to maximize the value of the business, JOANN has filed a motion seeking court authority to begin closing approximately 500 stores across the nation,” the statement read. “This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve. A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time. Right-sizing our store footprint is a critical part of our efforts to ensure the best path forward for JOANN.”"

I was in my local JoAnn's yesterday and they are still stocking shelves. I enjoy running in there for a yard or two, spools of matching thread, picture frames, batting, stuffing, etc. With Walmart no longer having a fabric department that women flock to, I'd really hate to see my JoAnns close. Hopefully it is one that will stay open. Perhaps they need to look at their sales and only keep what sells the most in certain stores such as fabric, thread. As far as I'm concerned they toys, beads, wood cutouts, can go.

Gordon Brothers, the restructuring firm that recently took control of embattled retailer Big Lots, has emerged as a “stalking horse” bidder for Joann. If it is successful, the firm is likely to liquidate and close all stores."
IOW, if there is no other bidder, Gordon Brothers is likely to acquire the company's assets and shut it down.

Looks like the two JAF stores closest to me will be shutting down. I've never been in one, and only visited the other a few times. The two that I did visit fairly often when I lived in Oregon are also shutting down.

The one in my town is closing as well -- I'm surprised it is considered a low producing store since Abilene is a city of over 100,000 - you'd think there would be enough customers to keep it going. Really disappointed as that doesn't leave me with any options other than two very expensive quilt shops locally and Hobby Lobby that I don't shop at due to their ethics. I like Marshall Dry Goods but the postage is getting expensive and I rarely buy $80. to qualify for free postage. There are times I only need a yard or two in order to round out the colours in a quilt and JoAnn's Keepsake Calicos has such a wide range of colours. I also shop there for inexpensive yarn for our prayer shawl ministry.
