If you haven't, check out SewCanShe.com - lots of free patterns, simple and easy to do. All patterns are free if you don't mind dealing with computer formatting - which is not always printer friendly. If you want to print one out that's already formatted for printing, either subscribe to her emails in which she always includes one or two, or pay a small fee for a formatted one. It's easy to copy and paste instructions off her site and format them yourself for printing..and that's always free to do.

I had never seen the site ... and want to spend more time looking at all the possibilities.
Many of these quilts show that a great quilt does not always have to be the most complicated ... but the greatness can come from "right" fabric and colour choices in a very simple design!

Quick and simple., alternate 1 square and a 4 patch. Next row place squares beneath 4 patches ( and 4 patches under squares. ) You can do any size pieces you like 🙂, but l like to cut squares 5.5" and the 4 patch pieces 3" . These sew to 5" units in finished top . You can do scrappy or coordinate.

I know I have not posted for a while and I won't go into the details as to why BUT I'm back.

When I make quilts for nursing homes/foster children I like to use 4" squares as this is an easy size for the recipients to view. Many times I do a log cabin type quilt and other times I do just the rows of squares with1 central square that is not in any of the row squares so each quilt is different than all the rest I have given.

I cut multiple squares from the same fabric and place them in stacks. Then I take from each stack as I sew. Each square strip is 15 squares per strip making the strips 60" long. The strip length is easy to adjust to the size desired. A few are larger and a few are smaller depending on the size of the person getting the lap quilt.

A quilt for a little person (under 4' as an adult) would be smaller than one for a person 6'. So I do whatever size I like for that particular piece.

All are sewn and quilted on the machine. When I quilt them I use the seams as my quilting guide to make it faster for the quilting process. I have just moved so I most likely will not get many done for Christmas this year.
