I always buy more than then the amount called for. For three yard quilts I buy a 1 1/4 yard of each. I rarely have much left. I must cut and piece larger than the pattern. Never have figured that out.

I definitely hear you.
I always refold the fabric that I purchase and measure it as I refold it. (not in the school of pre-washing) Got nailed once by being shorted almost 1/2 a yard on expensive backing fabric. I didn't notice until it was too late to do anything about it. Never again. Within a day or two of an order coming in my door, it's measured and refolded for my piece of mind.
It's a mutual exchange, in that they expect me to pay for what I order, and I expect to get what I paid for. Otherwise, I buy elsewhere.

What a shame. One of the things I like about using more fabrics than most is you don't have to be so precise about everything. I used to plan extensively and more than once had problems because of bad cuts. I learned it is better to be a half yard too much then 2 inches too short -- or to use more than one fabric.
When I'm figuring out yardage, I base on a 40" width -- and sometimes I barely get that.
It is not always (so much) the cutter's fault, some fabrics are warped and badly folded/wrapped during the manufacturing process. Backs particularly, between the folding on the bolt and everything, I'd really rather they tear instead of cut, that way at least I'd have a straight edge. Really frustrating when you get a back and extra half yard and still not come out usable for that project because the cut/fold slanted one way on one edge and the other way on the other edge.

3 inches is almost 10% of 36 inches! I can't believe it is shrinkage. I will measure from now on. But, if the company doesn't help out, it is a waste of time. I am already boycotting eQuilters because they tried to explain the fabric flaws were part of the batik process.
I am stocked up with new fabric for a while, so...next time.
Thanks for the advice!

I used to order a lot thru COnnecting Threads and never thought to check the cutting until one time I thought it looked less than what it should and sure enough it was less than I ordered. So I checked the other fabrics also and seems whomever worked on my order was having a bad day. So I called Connecting Threads and told them my plight and they told me they would correct it immediatly and did just that. Plus I got to keep what they gave me before so I came out on the winning end. But now I check all my fabric orders for correctness, not that I don't trust them but just to assure myself that I received what I ordered. I haven't ordered fabric except maybe a backing or two since late 2018 but Connecting Threads was good on their word about correcting mistakes.

I haven't had any fabric order that was cut less than I ordered from any online shop so far. I did get upset with Keepsake. I ordered a five yards of Amish black and they sent five one yard cuts. Said it was my fault for not clarifying. I said if I wanted five one yard cuts i would have made five orders of one yard each. They ignored me about the issue so I ignore them by not being a customer.

Not only fabric orders are getting cut wrong. I had ordered two panels from 2 different on line fabric stores. They could not even cut them on the lines showing them where to cut. It was a half an inch from top to bottom and another 3/8 from side to side. I sent emails never heard back from them.
