How do quilting books “earn” their spot on your shelf?
#21
Well, I am glad that I did not purge my cross stitch pattern books. I have found a new use for them by making pixel quilts! Ya'll have seen my quilts. I don't usually follow a pattern. Most of my inspirations have come from other people or YT. I do have a stack of books that I inherited that I need to look through. They are signed by the author and may be worth reselling. I have never done anything like that. I usually just give stuff to someone who could use it.

Sometimes I keep a quilting book because of the beauty of the outside cover/spine when it's placed on my bookshelf!
I have a few of those with good content too, but some are too lovely to give away and adds to my decor....

The first “The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt” book and “Alice’s Wonderland Sampler Quilt” by Alice Caroline. Both are 6” block samplers, with surprisingly few overlaps in the blocks. The Alice’s Wonderland book has such a pretty quilt, made with Liberty fabrics which I won’t be buying but I’m going to definitely try to use some Liberty-esque fabrics for a sampler. The Farmers Wife I got mostly to read, but I’ve decided to go ahead and make a lap size Fathers Wife sampler in blue and white with my blue scraps.

One of my favorites is Lap Quilting, by Georgia Bonesteel. I don’t use the templates for the blocks that are easily rotary cut, but I’ve used the curved templates and I find several of the quilts timeless and inspiring. The rest of the quilts are pretty dated, but if you look past the ruffles and fabric choices they’re still good quilts. Plus it is was one of my first quilting books (maybe even the first quilting book I owned) given to me by a quilting friend.

I don't buy whole quilting books anymore. Most great patterns are available for download online now. I probably should get rid of a few that I have, but I still want to make a few of the patterns that are in them.
