Good day everyone. We are a bit chilly today. 41F for our high, which we are currently. Then the next few days we drop below freezing for high temps. I plan to spend a few days reorganizing my sewing room downstairs. I have several boxes I need to unpack and find a happy place in the sewing room or decide to part ways and donate to local guild. I also need to work on my cotton cuts 5-0 #2 mystery. I’m on clues 1 & 2. My goal to have all the clues from 1-4 completed. Since it’s the start of the new year, I plan to gather fabric to start a few QAL’s. One is a group off of Facebook, Grid Girls winter mystery weekly QAL. She usually has such lovely quilts. The pattern is free, we just need to be on the face book page. I plan to use her colors, red, white, blue and gold. Maybe donate to local guild for QOV. Happy sewing everyone.

Oh boy, I am going to miss this VQW. I have nothing planned and no WIP. The only thing I could do is to put up my mini frame and practice some FMQ. Does that count for a VQW???

sschick--that counts for VQW as far as I'm concerned . It's quilting related.

Cam's gram--brr that's cold. Glad you made it to breakfast and back safely.

Dedemac--always good to start early on the organizing process

Well I have everything packed to take with me. And I did a little wool applique today. First time I've tried hand work since injuring my thumb and I was happy to see I could do some work. So I packed a few hand work projects to work on. Will check back in tomorrow night and see how you're all doing.

Count me in. Since this is a 3 day weekend for me, I plan to (hopefully) make lots of progress on my Bonnie Hunter mystery project.

I'm doing some clean-up of my file folders and wasn't sure if I had posted the completed Dragon Hoard top I was working on in the fall during the VQW. I was lucky enough to go for a ride with a lady who had a goal of hitting all of the Illinois shop hop locations. I was doing it mostly for the fun and friendship but at the very first shop on the very first day (Aug 1), I found an unexpected panel of dragon fabrics that I just fell in love with. By the end of the day, I knew what I was going to do. Most of the fabric came out of stash, but it was fun shopping for dragon hoard fabrics!

Had some issues along the way. I had designed the fabric with 12 squares, but there were 16. I thought my dragon squares were all square and the same size... no, the frame around them was but I cut along the inner frame design which was not square and not the same size. In trying to make the blocks smaller I had to make them larger to float the bad cuts. Which meant that the sashing fabric which was a thrift store remnant and short a few inches chopped off one corner was very tight on the yardage. If I had just a tiny bit more (or only had 12 blocks), I could have cut it so a design zinged around the edges instead of just random.

But I'm happy with the finished top, it was fun, I used up a lot of metallic fabrics from stash, and I got it done before the Bonnie mystery!

I was on a roll yesterday! Proud to report that #1, is nearly complete, still stitching a label on the back #2) quilting 40 x 56" compassion quilt , attaching binding, my part is done ready to pass on to a friend who will finish binding . Today I'll #3 piece backing, hopefully #4 load and quilt another small 42 x 56" quilt for spring sale. In between stints of standing at the longarm, my game plan is to start cutting my next scrap quilt. When I'm at the cutting table, I can glance up and see the snow accumulating.

I attended a really good meeting with my day guild yesterday afternoon. Combined with grocery shopping and the hour long drive each way (yes, I live in the boonies and a trip into the biggest town around always means a big list of errands too) didn't leave me time to sew. I also delivered a completed quilting commission and the client was very happy with the results. And I handed off 6 donation quilts--4 were mine and 2 I longarmed for fellow members. So a very good day all around.

Today, I am going to join my other guild's sewing day for a few hours. We will be working on QOV blocks for the local chapter. Then, I need to get back to my Lemoyne Star blocks. I have 25 made and need 49--half way there!!

Got some housekeeping items done in my quilting area, cleaned the Kerig, changed the needle on my sewing machine to a 70 microtex (using 100 wt thread for applique) and increased pressure on the pressure foot. First for me. Applique is much smoother.
    Raggiemom - enjoy your trip.
Dedemac - and Elmer's Glue is a lot less work!
sschick - yes, working on quilting counts!
Iceblossom - really nice quilt and probably a lot of fun collecting the fabrics.

Now, to order groceries on line for pickup tomorrow and then work on my quilt.

Managed to get the blocks finished and pressed for my scrappy blues chandelier quilt, and dug out my ruler for cutting the setting triangles, so might have time this morning to search for large enough scrap pieces of neutrals. My guild sew day isn’t until 12:15-5 today and will work on placemats while I am there. One lady said she would demo towels for the oven door, I looked at a youtube and they look a little too fiddly for me 🤪 but I will watch her demo in case she has some tricks to share. I enjoy seeing and hearing what everyone is up to during these VQW, thank you for sharing!
