Default Eagles are Back on the Nest!

Hi all. It snowed at the Big Bear Valley last night and guess who showed up on the nest? Yep, our adult eagles are back and fixing their nest for the new clutch to come. https://www.friendsofbigbearvalley.org/eagles/ They aren't going to be there full time until the egg laying starts but there is a lot to do on the nest. I suspect we are going to see them a bunch for the rest of the year.

I loved watching them last year!! I have already seen some footage of them rearranging sticks in the nest.

Default Eagle Nest Fluff in place

I checked in this morning and the eagles have loaded the nest with fluff. I watched a non-Big Bear Valley video potentially explaining their late start.... owls nesting nearby and the weather has been too warm. Whether or not they are still exhausted from last year's parenting was also mentioned as a factor to delay their egg laying. The male (Shadow) brought a fish into the nest, the female (Jackie) wanted it and there was a huge fight. The viewers were guessing that Jackie's hormones are in gear and she's about to lay her egg(s). Shadow needed to eat before he could start bringing her tons of food. Now that the nest is fluffy, I'm guessing that the eggs are about to arrive. https://friendsofbigbearvalley.org/ I'll post a note when Jackie is permanently pancaking (laying on eggs) in the nest.

I am obsessed with these eagles. Watched them last year and am happy that eggs have been laid and the waiting has begun.
