    I agree. Seems like it would probably result in the quilt never being used or donated elsewhere. A gift with rules is not a true gift.

    Kindness never hurts. Make the quilt for them. I would also advise against asking them about colors, themes, etc.

    Bless this young couple with a charming baby quilt. It may just be the act that will break the ice and open the door to being more open and neighborly. This expecting mom may have assumptions about her neighbors that are not true or accurate. You can make the warm and friendly move to create at least a little friendship. If it works grand! If it doesn't work you know you tried.
