Same here, I love hand work. It's relaxing and I get to take it with me everywhere. I am not good and just sitting idle with nothing to do. Handwork fills the space for me.

I love all kinds, embroidery, cross stitch, applique, hand piecing and hand quilting.

I am impatient, so i want my tops done quickly..And sometimes depending on the size of the pieces, handpiecing it is actually quicker.

i would imagine the hand pieced quilts would tend to be less bulky. probably a real jewel.

I love to hand piece. I take it every where I go. It is very relaxing and time seems to slow down a little.

I learned to quilt by hand piecing.. My grandma used to sit on the porch swing and piece quilts every day. I enjoy hand stitching the binding and applique.

I started my GFG to keep my DH from killing me when we traveled. I would see non-existant things out of the corner of my eyes, suck in my breath and scare him to death. So to keep me occupied I started piecing the GFG. I loved it and had about 1/3 of a queen size pieced and sewed together and the van was broken into in Mexico and the 2 most valuable things they stole were the porta potti (and we are still trying to figure that out) and my quilt, along with a rotary cutter and my plastic template from Marti Michell. When I got home I called her shop, explained what happened and they replaced the template, but I kinda lost heart after so much was taken. Not only did I have a lot of it put together I had about 50 flowers with 2 rows on them. I had a few still at home and I'm back to doing them, but I've also picked up punchneedle for trips and TV time. I did a fair amount of fooling around hand quilting to see if I liked it but it was all smaller pieces. It is very relaxing and I love the look.

I hand-pieced a GFG because I wanted to do it 'the old-fashioned way'. I wanted to hand quilt it, but because I had never done it before, I made another lap quilt to practice the hand-quilting on. Then I got distracted from it and haven't gotten to the GFG, but it is on my short list of quilts to do. I do machine piece, too, though, for speed. But hand piecing is relaxing and therapeutic.
