I have several of those "special power plugs" in my sewing room, and I still unplug during storms!

I also unplug everything during electrical storms. I have a manufactured home, and just not willing to take a chance. Appliances are plugged in, but they have their own insurance to cover replacement, so not them, but everything else. If that makes me over cautious, so be it. I can live with that title.

I live in the midwest and we unplug electrical items when there is a storm unless we have a surge protector, so in my humble opinion, you are very wise.

Nope, I don't think you are overly cautious! I unplug my sewing machine and computer during a thunderstorm, always. I sill still use my laptop on battery power. I don't want the computer in anything to get fried! My longarm's warranty is void if I don't unplug it when I am not using it, so it is just habit to unplug everything when I'm not using it.

I always unplug everything I can during a storm just to be on the safe side.

I always unplug mine also from the wall, rather be safe than sorry as I have already had 2 computers fried up from the storms

Am I overly cautious? I didn't get much done today!

We spent last Saturday morning at the Comcast office because lightning hit a tree about half a mile from us Friday night. Our DVR was fried. Luckily I didn't have my sewing machine plugged in! We have a whole house surge protector as well as individual surge protecters for our special equipment. Nothing else got it but the DVR was TOAST!

I don't unplug my machine as I use a power cord rated for bad storms; got it from my Bernina dealer and no problem for 10 years. We get all kinds of storms.
