Help! I Can't Bring Myself To Throw These Away! I Just CAN'T!

wow, good for you, I would use the first box of variegated thread, the others I would showcase in a container. Large glass jar with a lid the ones that are used for coffee beans, I have one filled with buttons that were a friend of mine.
I don't think this was proper english!

Thanks everyone! I finally came up with a great solution. A family member was quite emotional at the thought of me selling these and I couldn't bring myself to toss them so this is what I did!
A votive holder fits right into the opening. It's very beautiful when lit up.

The variegated threads are not usable but they make a lovely display in the curio.

This is a lighted curio that holds all of these mementos, including a crocheted doll dress from my Great Gram and a wire base from my dad and some baby things that my daugthers outgrew.

You might try putting the variegated threads or any that seem fragile to you in the freezer or in a bag with some moisture. Sometimes they dry out and can be revived. It's worth a try!
If you decide later on to use them, I have seen threads, trims, lace, scraps of fabric, etc laid on top of a backing piece of fabric, and then netting or some other very thin fabric put on top and then sewn over, so you are creating your own fabric/project. It can be really pretty and would make great place mats or mug rugs or such that you could also share with other family who might like the reminder of granny.
