I think you did just fine! All those little pieces and just in 12 square inches. I would just be saying -Yikes. Keep us posted. It is going to be a gorgeous quilt.

The block looks beautiful! Also.. once the quilt is quilted no one will EVER SEE a tiny bobble here and there. We are our OWN worst critics! Love the fabrics too!!

Yes, I cut all my fabric with a pinking blade; it's great as I have almost no threads on the back of my tops. I started a thread on this and included pictures of how I do it in response to questions. http://www.quiltingboard.com/pictures-f5/look-ma-no-threads-t164499.html.

You did a good job! This type of block is good for our brains. Makes us really think to get the stripes going the right way.

I got the fabric and the directions to make the 12 half-square triangles with that block. I found them as hard to do as that block. It is not easy sewing a diagonal 14" block. I had the most trouble marking it. even with a long ruler, the fabric wanted to slip while marking it. I tried the red pencil and finally settled on the miracle markers by miraclechalk.com. Because I didn't refer back to the finished quilt picture, I just cut the navy fabric/floral clusters with no regard to how I cut them. As a result, the clusters do not line up evenly with seam and they look wonky. At least to me they do.
I also found the fabric slippery to mark for those large blocks. When I sewed them, I pinned the fabrics about every 1.5" and just sewed really slowly. The scale of them is funny - I have never seen HSTs that big before! But it will all make sense when the quilt top is completed. Are you going to quilt it yourself? I plan on having it LA'd; I've done queen sized SITD at home and it has been a struggle due to the bulk. I don't want to attempt this on such an expensive and labour intensive quilt! Good luck with yours!
