I have a small one that I bought because I have a glass tabletop- I can sit at the machine, pin small blocks when needed and trim to perfect squares when necessary and not scratch he glass!

DH made mine. He took me to Ikea to buy a revolving TV turntable. DH glued an old cutting made on it. Then when glue was dry he turned it over and cut the overlapping mat. Sanded the edges with sandpaper and Voila! A 36in. round, revolving cutting mat.

OPS! We seem to be having trouble with our spelling. Third sentence I mean mat!

I have two -- one is the round Brooklyn Revolver that I love, but it has no lines and I like to have lines to use to straighten against. I also got a Fiskars (I believe) at Joanne's when one closed and it has lines but it does not rotate smoothly so I rarely use it.

I have the big one... love it. Used a 50% coupon at JoAnns. Well worth it.

I don't think it's just you. Maybe the smaller Olfa revolving mat works well, but the larger size doesn't--really hard to turn, therefore causing the fabric and cutter to shift. At least, that's been my experience.

Several quilting pros have raved about the Brooklyn Revolver. They used to come in 2 sizes, boasted something like 10 ball bearings so they turned on a dime, and the larger size (Brooklyn Revolver II) doubled as an ironing pad. I understood they have been out of production for 2-3 years, but, recently, the company started remanufacturing the original BR (smaller and without the ironing pad). AQS sells it at a discount. Unfortunately, they haven't started making the Brooklyn Revolver II again as yet. These things are pricey ($45-99+) but apparently well worth the investment--especially for appliquers. I can hardly wait for them to resume manufacturing the BRII.

If I were you, before investing in the Olfas or other brands, try to borrow one from a friend to test drive. Even with a JA coupon, the larger size was, for me, a complete waste of money. HTH

I made my own with the lazy susan (12" size) attachment from Lowe's. It was 7 dollars I think. Cut me a square of plywood 16" scrwed it to the lazy susan turntable, cut and glued and old rotary mat on top and I love it!!! Hubby also made me a smaller one and I use them all the time!

I just bought one last week but wouldn't have if I hadn't gotten it at 70% off. I was just lucky I had a coupon that worked on sale items and they were 50% off anyway. Other wise I think they are too much money. Just my thoughts.
