Wonderful piece of DIY workmanship; square rails would have made for tricky winding quilt back and forth, racing from one end to the other, but sounds as if grandfather would have been a great help to grandmother. A wonderful treasure which can be updated with round steel rods!! No need for software?

I am the proud newest owner of a craigslisted frame like that. It is now in Needham, MA but before me was out on Cape Cod and before that was part of a quilting group in Concord, MA I believe. I am attempting to add rails, and a carriage and a Juki to interface with it so I can medium arm quilt. My two center poles are approx. 2"x3" but my outer two wooden poles are round with cogs on both sides. I haven't set it up yet but I bought new canvas to make new leaders for it. Yours is the only one I have ever seen kind of like mine. I am going to try and insert pics.

I inherited my grandmother's frame. How did you attach the quilt to leader fabric? I would appreciate any insight as to how to use it.

I have one somewhat like yours with wooden hand cut pegs. Haven't used it in years so I really should get rid of it.

Thumb tacks hold on canvas leaders, then quilt is pinned or basted to them.

I haven't (that I remember - I don't recall what my grandmother's looked like!), but it's a great idea. Looks pretty simple, but very functional and easy to use. If I ever get to hand quilting, that would work well!
