Oh, I see. Can I ask what city you are in? I am trying to find a place to call home. With the market figures of today, I may just have to stay put. I like where I am at except for the high taxes and congestion.

I'm in Elko. It's where I grew up - not a bad place - but getting too big for me! Still fairly sleepy compared to most places. Our cost of living is fairly high, but the unemployment rate is comparatively low.

Ours was $293. Seems like AC never shuts off. we keep it on 78 and lots of fans! Hubby says he will never gripe about the winter cold again!

$124 for a 1500 sq. ft. house and during the time this bill was accumulating I also ran a couple of brooder heat lamps during the nights in the kennel because of newborn puppies. We utilize one window AC and run it manually which means the house stays at around 75o - 79o. Ceiling fan and a couple of portable fans run throughout the day and night. I honestly expected this bill to top $200 so you KNOW I was pleasantly surprised! I think I shall try disconnecting all the vampires though ......... can't hurt and will help!

Mine was $505, but we have had 75 days of over 100 degrees with one 99 degreed day in the middle. Most days have been 108 and today it was 111. I am just glad my air conditioner is still working. Many in town have just quit...too much heat and constant on.

I live in Wichita Falls, TX. We usually have ten or so days of over 100. Setting all kinds of records this year....darn it!

Vampire electronics?? You mean they use elec. just sitting there? I'm going to try your idea of unplugging....Thanks

Anything with one of those itty bitty little lights draws power constantly. phone chargers, laptop chargers etc draw power when nothing is connected to them... I know there are others, but that is what is coming to mind at the moment

Also, anything that is "instant on"...like TV's, DVD players, game systems, computers, etc....all these use "phantom power" even when they are "off".

Remember how things in the "old days" used to need to "warm up" before they came on??? Well, what they did is make these items so they really don't turn "off"...thus, they use power when they are not "on". I'm not a technical person, so I don't understand everything exactly, but I understand the concept.

Hope that helps.
