In Massachusetts recently we had a huge water pipe break open sending something like 800 gallons of water an hour into the Charles River. We had a ban on water from the tap and had to boil all water for drinking, cooking and washing dishes, also for brushing teeth. Like many people I have an electric stove so with 2 large pots of water boiling all day for several days my electric bill went thru the roof. Same thing with the water bill. Any suggestions on getting a credit on these charges ?

I wouldn't count on getting a credit but I guess it's worth a try.

I would start with the water department . They should be able to help adjust that bill and then ask for a bigger credit to help offset the increase in your electric bill. Can't hurt , but you know how these companies are :hunf:

It will be more like the water company would have to pay the the power company for having to produce more electricity. You may get a customer refund on your bill after a lump rebate to all customers for .11 in about five years.

I doubt that you would get any kind of credit.

I saw a show recently right after we had 2 major water main breaks and had to do the same as you. It also about the earthquake in Haiti! They showed little packets a little larger than sugar packets that you just dumped into a gallon of water and in half an hour the water was clean and ok to drink. The water they used was almost black! It was amazing. They were sending the packets to Haiti!

I wrote PUR asking about the packets as on the show they were saying they cost less than 50 cents a gallon. I thought it would be great to keep them on hand in case of emergencies. But I never heard a reply.

I think they should sell them here in the US but I guess they make more money on the systems.

In the same boat. I called the gas company and water. They are sending out forms to me so I can get reimbursed. Also check with Feama it was a State of Emergery.

Utility companies are not generally known for their compassion. Good luck!

That's no joke. I think you hit the nail on the head. Right now my daughter is scheduled for surgery in the morning so the electric thing takes a back seat. Thanks for understanding. Thanks to all who responded.
