Just googled topic of driving barefoot. Indicates that no state has that requirement, and it is an urban myth. Sometimes it is safer to drive barefoot than driving with some of the shoes we wear.

I'm with the rest of you. No shoes for sewing. I can't control the speed with shoes on. I wear slip on in the house but shed them when I sew.

I always have one shoe on and one shoe off. If I'm missing a shoe I can usually find it under the sewing machine or somewhere in the sewing room!

That is one of the first rules of any quilter or home sewer--you cannot feel the foot control properly through shoes!!

It is so automatic to me that I have never thought about it before. She went on and on about it and told all of my other SIL. I can't sew with my shoes on. I can do anything I want in my own home, but I am curious to see if anyone else sews barefoot.
I do exactly what you do. At the front door the shoes come off and they only go on when I'm going out. Like someone else said, when our dog was still living if I came out with shoes on he got excited because he thought we were going walking or for a drive.

I may have learned this when I was a small child and lived in an immaculate home where my mom kept the hardwood floors so nice that you could almost see your face in them. As children we were trained to take our shoes off at the door and put them on a little rug next to the door and to this day I do that whether at my own home or someone elses. If I'm at other people's home, I make sure I have socks on as some people get grossed out by bare feet. I also usually ask if it's OK if I remove my shoes. I'm with you, NO SHOES works best for me.
